This is an actual race used camshaft from Scuderia Ferrari's 2002 F2002 F1 racecar. Mounted to a crystal base with an enamel SF shield, it makes an amazing showpiece and conversation starter.
At the end of the season, it was removed from the engine as a consumable part and thoroughly cleaned. After mounting, it was signed by Michael Schumacher (Driver), Jean Todt (Executive Director Scuderia Ferrari) and Luca Cordero Di Montezemolo (CEO Ferrari), Ross Brawn (Technical Director), Rory Bryne (Chief Designer), and Luca Badoer (Test Driver).
In 2002, Schumacher and Ferrari dominated F1, the Ferrari duo winning 15 out of 17 races (Schumacher 11, Barrichello 4). However, their run was tainted by a second A1-Ring incident. In a replay of 2001, Barrichello was asked to give way to Schumacher, except this time for the win. An embarrassed Schumacher then pushed Barrichello to the top step of the podium, and was subsequently fined $1 million by the FIA for interfering with podium procedures. This debacle eventually led to the banning of team orders. Schumacher matched Juan Manuel Fangio's record of 5 world championships, set back in the 1950s.
The Ferraro F2002 was one of the most successful Formula One car designs of all time. Designed by Ross Brawn, Rory Bryne, and Paolo Martinelli, it won sixteen Grands Prix, from a total of twenty races in 2002 and 2003.
The car was much lighter than its predecessor, the F2001. Powered by a 3.0 litre V10 engine which had a very low center of gravity, the F2002 had excellent handling. Bridgestone developed special tyres, suited specifically for the car. Aerodynamically, the Ferrari was well ahead of the contemporary Williams BMW but perhaps a little down on power, and on a par with, or slightly ahead of the 2002 season's McLaren car. The F2002 was the fastest car of the season, and Ferrari's rivals were unable to compete because it was one of the most complete racing cars ever designed.
Using the Pomeroy Index system, MotorSport magazine recently determined that the F2002 is the fastest Formula One car of all time.
Received directly from Scuderia Ferrari at the end of the season, race used pieces are now very rare due to the espionage problems with Ferrari and McLaren, the team is no longer releasing these pieces to private collectors! Signed certificate of authenticity is of course included. A custom engraved plaque can be created with your text and installed before shipping.
